To Proclaim Liberty to Captives and Freedom to Prisoners

“To proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners”.

With this statement, Jesus does not seem to be talking so much about literal freedom from prison, but rather, in this passage He appears to speak more of one’s in spiritual captivity such as the bondage of sin and its repercussions in one’s life.

But one can also be captive to many things, including greed, power, money, status, and material possessions. One can be imprisoned by addictions or certain relationships from which there appear to be no escape.

One can also feel captive to labels such as “worthless” or “stupid” cast upon them by other. There may also need to be a freeing WITHIN.
