Following God’s Direction
If you are on this blog for the first time, or you have skipped over any in the course of this year, please check out these earlier blogs, then go back to this one. The ones that I suggest are:
Faith and Trust, Trusting Prayer, and Trusting God’s Timing.
Receiving & Perceiving God’s Direction, My Ways are Not Your Ways, and The Voice of the Shepherd
Psalms 37: 4-7a. NASB1995
Vs 4. “Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
Vs 5 “Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.”
Vs 6 “He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your judgment as the noonday.
Vs7 “ Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him;”
Examples of God’s direction. Note that each time, God did not act sovereignly. The key people in the story didn’t just go their own way, then afterward may have lamented, “God why did you let this happen?” Instead, they sought God for help AND for specific direction, AND HE ANSWERED THEM when they followed His direction.
2 Chronicles 20: 1-22 The prayer of Jehoshaphat and God’s deliverance of Judah. Key line: ““and he (the prophet Jahaziel) said, “‘Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s.”
Elisha’s word of warning to the King of Israel: 2 Kings 6:8-10 NASB1995
“Now the king of Aram was warring against Israel; and he counseled with his servants saying, “In such and such a place shall be my camp.” The man of God sent word to the king of Israel saying, “Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Arameans are coming down there.” The king of Israel sent to the place about which the man of God had told him; thus he warned him, so that he guarded himself there, more than once or twice.”
God’s compassion and peace instead of war and bloodshed: 2 Kings 6: 11-23
Prov 3: 5-6 NIV. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
