Entering In
At this Easter season, many of you, likely through your church, Bible app, or other ministry, once again are following Jesus from the raising of Lazarus, to the Triumphal Entry, through the Last Supper and Gethsemane, to Jesus’ cross, burial, and resurrection. The aspect of all this that I wanted to focus on today is one simply stated, but supernaturally significant and eternally profound part of this story as found in Scripture.
That aspect is what’s described in Matthew chapter 27, verse 50-52, as Jesus hung on the cross:
“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;”
According to the Biblehub.com online website:
‘The veil and the entrance curtain were not merely functional elements of the Tabernacle; they were rich in symbolism. The veil's role as a barrier underscored the holiness of God and the need for atonement and mediation. The entrance curtain, while allowing access to the Holy Place, reminded the Israelites of the sanctity required to approach God.”
This is significant! Why? Read on…
The Bible describes the Holy of Holies this way:
“The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits in length, twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in height, and he overlaid it with pure gold. He also overlaid the altar with cedar.” (Twenty cubits is about 30 feet)
1 Kings 6:20 NASB1995
“The instructions for the veil (that was over the entrance to the Holy of Holies) are as follows: ‘You are to make a veil of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen, with cherubim skillfully worked into it. Hang it with gold hooks on four posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold, standing on four silver bases. Hang the veil from the clasps and place the ark of the Testimony behind the veil. The veil will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.’ " Exodus 26:31-33
“Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time onward until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet. For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.”
Hebrews 10:11-14 NASB1995
“But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it. For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives. Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood. And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.”
Hebrews 9:11-18, 27-28 NASB1995
Now Jesus has, by His divine blood sacrifice, split open and removed the veil between man and God, and given us access into the throne room and presence of God.
Please seek the Lord while He may be found, and enter into His Presence this holiday season.
